Alucarda (1977)

alucardaReview number 13 comes from episode 5 of Bitches of Horror, where we reviewed Alucarda.

AlucardaAfter the death of her parents, a young girl arrives at a convent and brings a sinister presence with her. Is it her enigmatic imaginary friend, Alucarda, who is to blame? Or is there a satanic force at work?

Wow this is such a weird movie and I mean that in a very positive way. Alucarda is such an interesting and fascinating character. The movie is quite funny sometimes, don’t know if that was intentional, but some scenes were hilarious.

If you want to be entertained and at the same time see some bloody and crazy scenes then I recommend watching Alucarda. By the way, I am also very jealous of Jasmine who has an Alucarda t-shirt that looks amazing!

Splinter (2008)

splinterReview number 12 comes from episode 5 of Bitches of Horror, where we reviewed Splinter.

SplinterTrapped in an isolated gas station by a voracious Splinter parasite that transforms its still living victims into deadly hosts, a young couple and an escaped convict must find a way to work together to survive this primal terror.

I rewatched Splinter for our fifth episode and it was not better or worse than the first time I saw it. I like the ”monster” in this one, it moves in a cool way, but the characters were sometimes so stupid that I wanted to scream.

The movie never gets boring, but it isn’t great either, but it’s worth a watch. My favorite part of this film is when they are in the gas station.

Grading: 6 out of 10.

Neon Maniacs (1986)

neon1Review number 11 comes from episode 4 of Bitches of Horror, where we reviewed Neon Maniacs.

Neon Maniacs: Monsters living in a tower of the Golden Gate Bridge, but when they try to tell authorities, no one believes them.

Neon Maniacs is such a fun movie that oozez of the 80’s throughout the film and even the title feels so 80’s. Some of the monsters in this one looked more comical than scary, but that’s not a bad thing. It is very funny filled with some good gory scenes.

Neon Maniacs is filled with so many WTF moments like characters running in a very comical way. This film is very entertaining and if you love monster movies, you will want to check out this one!

Headless

headless1Review number 10 comes from episode 4 of Bitches of Horror, where we reviewed Headless.

Headless: In this “lost slasher film from 1978,” a masked killer wages an unrelenting spree of murder, cannibalism, and necrophilia. But when his tortured past comes back to haunt him, he plunges to even greater depths of madness and depravity, consuming the lives of a young woman and those she holds dear.

Headless was in my top 3 of the best horror movies of 2015, we made a top 10 list in our New Year’s episode of Bitches of Horror. This film delivers on the goods, meaning the gore and the story. The gore is probably some of the best that I have ever seen in a film and the film starts of intense and never loses that intensity.

The acting was good and I liked most of the characters, but Betsy was definitely my favorite. The story is also very well written, we get to see flashbacks and some disturbing scenes to try and understand our main character’s actions. The last twenty minutes are so frickin’ good adn gorehounds, you won’t be dissapointed with Headless!

Some Kind of Hate (2015)

hate1Our ninth review comes from episode 4 of Bitches of Horror, where we reviewed Some Kind of Hate.

Some Kind of Hate: A bullied teenager is sent to a reform school where he accidentally summons the spirit of a girl, herself a victim of bullying, who takes vengeance on his tormentors.

This is how you make än amazing indie movie, Some Kind of Hate delivers in all areas. The story is good and focuses on an important issue, bullying. The movie shows how nasty the effects can be for someone that gets bullied and the film got me thinking a lot after  I had seen it.

The acting was good and the way the little girl killed people was very cool and brutal. The cinematography is beautiful and fits the story.

Grading: 9 out of 10.

Fantacide (2007)

fantacide1Our eighth review comes from episode 3 of Bitches of Horror, where we reviewed Fantacide.

Fantacide: A Nazi cult wreaks havoc in it’s search for a mythical spear, convinced it will bring about the return of the Third Reich.

Jasmine found Fantacide in the horror magazine, Goregasmic. There are few good things in this film, but mainly it was a dissapointment. I get that it was trying to be filled with dark humour, but it just was not funny and I myself love a bit more sinister jokes, so I thought that I would love all the jokes.

The script and the story could have been better with some changes and it was also too long, almost 2 hours that could have easily been cut down by 30 minutes. The gore effects were brilliant and there’s plenty of gore in this one.

Grading: 3 out of 10.

Mørke sjeler (Dark Souls) (2010)

dark1.jpgThe seventh review comes from episode 3 of Bitches of Horror where we reviewed the Norwegian film, Mørke sjeler (Dark Souls).

Mørke sjeler: A revengeful father embarks on a dark thrill ride of lost memories, conspiracy and zombie-like symptoms. Finding the mysterious darkness within is the source of the bizarre world he has uncovered.

If you want a different nasty horror film with lots of drilling in it, I recommend you to watch Dark Souls. It has a lot of nasty and brutal drillin scenes and the last 20 minutes are crazy good.

The camerawork is really good as well, with POV from the victims as they are getting drilled, which was a creative use of POV. The story is good and tragic and the actors do a good job.

Grading: 8 out of 10.

Punishment (2012)

punish1The sixth review comes from episode 3 of Bitches of Horror where we reviewed the slasher film Punishment, which is also known as Down the Road

Punishment: A group of college students escape their troubled lives but only to find themselves fighting for their lives from a revenge seeking mad man.

I ws very dissappointed watching Punishment, mainly because on the front cover it said, move over Jason Voorhees and I thought it would be a really good slasher, but no, Jason can stay right where he is. The bad guy in this one is not a very interesting character and his motive is also pretty vague and uninteresting.

The characters were very annoying and making such stupid decisions. I am very forgiving with character making really stupid decisions, but in this one it was just too much. The one good thing I can say about this one is that the gore effects were really great and that saved the film from becoming a total fricking trainwreck. The surprisingly high grading is due to the amazing SFX and nothing else.

Grading: 4 out of 10.

Dold Ondska (Hidden evil) 2014

ondska1The fifth review comes from episode 2 of Bitches of Horror, where we talked about the Swedish short horror film Hidden evil (Dold ondska), which was directed by Erik Hansson.

Dold ondska: A group of friends on an island finds a man in the water, but not everything is what it seems to be.

I enjoyed this short film mainly because of the good camerawork and the good use of creepy music. I also liked the story and the acting was pretty good from most of the cast. I am glad that more horror shorts and features are emerging from Sweden and Erik Hansson is part of a Swedish movie company called Dark North Pictures, who are producing horror and thriller films.

Grading: 7 out of 10.

You can watch the movie here.

The Voices (2014)

voices1Our fourth review comes from the second episode of Bitches of Horror where we reviewed The Voices.

The Voices: A likable guy pursues his office crush with the help of his evil talking pets, but things turn sinister when she stands him up for a date.

Ryan Reynalds’ performance in this one is one of his best performances and whoever picked those pink overalls made a really clever costume decision. The story takes some unexpected turns and it is really funny. I really enjoy dark humour in horror movies, or in any movies.

Some of the best moments includes a talking Scottish cat and talking heads in the freezer. Gemma Arterton and Anna Kendrick does a really good job aswell, but it is Reynolds who steals the show in this one.

Grading: 8 out of 10.
